These students are graduating students of the Construction Engineering Technology program, just like our own Mark Young, StelCrete Engineering Co-ordinator. The students made the trip to StelCrete in Welland, Ontario to get a look at the production side of the rebar/steel industry and to learn about the many aspects of this business so the students are aware of what opportunities could be available to them upon graduation. The students learned about the different machinery and its technological advances used by StelCrete to produce the many products we make for our customers. This included information on StelCrete’s assembly program,  Salit Steel’s shearing and bending for the loose supply of rebar, and Service Center’s structural steel supply. Students were also taught about the process from order to delivery and some of the industry challenges we face with tight deadlines and the logistics of some of the bigger projects. Educational tours like this one are one of the many ways that Salit Steel exists among our community, and it is a great opportunity for students to see first-hand the skills they have learned being put to practice, and a great opportunity for Salit to tap into the emerging workforce.
